Integration of Art and Architecture, Jonquière Library

The idea of working with the flock of snow geese is related to the geographic location of the city of Jonquière on the spring migration route of the geese to the Baffin Islands. Also, the migration evokes the transformation and the journey towards a gathering place. It is a quest that stimulates the imagination and allows us to set out in search of unknown worlds and new dimensions to discover new worlds and acquire new knowledge. This work is a metaphor for the experience that books provide for imaginary journeys and the acquisition of knowledge. Also, of the library as a place of gathering and transmission of knowledge. During the elaboration of my proposal, I also wondered about the relationship between the digital book and the physical book, between the virtual object and the concrete object. Thus, this work is designed to be both virtual and real through its mirror surface, the projection of shadows and its interaction with light.

The work is suspended in the center of the great hall, under the skylight, and acts as a chandelier with monumental dimensions. It is designed to fit in with the specificities of the library's architecture by maintaining transparency and openness to the outside environment and preserving the wide perspectives and multifocal richness of the place. It is positioned in the space in order to offer multiple points of view on the flock of geese and the shadows projected. Its oval structure energizes the work and the curve allows a transformation in the movement of the visitor. Also, the chromium coating allows to reflect the architectural environment and the people who move in the place which brings a union between the form and the background and allows the work to be transformed according to the atmospheric changes.

The whole recalls the first devices for moving the image. The work is composed of 24 geese as there are 24 images per second in the cinema. Thus, the flight of the goose is decomposed in the sculpture. The different dimensions of the work allow a progressive discovery which is enriched in the movement of the visitor. It allows itself to be discovered in its multiple facets which situate the individual at the heart of my proposal of integration of work in this place in full mutation and dedicated to the transmission of knowledge.
